Week Fifty-One 2013 – 52 Weeks of Lawn & Garden Maintenance – STOP! Where Doing Man?

Where doing in the garden? Where doing in life?

Picture this…. You are in a darkened theatre; the sound of the symphony pours through you as each musician with instrument races the other to reach a pause in anticipation of the dramatic finale. In the midst of the one silent moment – as all in the wide room hold their breaths awaiting the next procession of notes– as the conductor swings his arms in an upward motion, a small yet confident voice reaches out and fills the void with –  “Where Doing Man”? – The pause of the instruments was held as the audience rolled in laughter. A young boy in the audience standing on a seat next to his mother had an honest curiosity – What was that man doing up there with that stick waving his arms in front of all of those people with musical instruments?

This young boy has since grown and his mother, who is represented by Chameli – Jasmine Flower, has been transplanted to The Original Garden.

This story has always stuck with me as a reminder that every symphony needs a curious child to stop everyone in their tracks so we may all ask ourselves – Where Doing Man?

If his mother were to be a flower it would be Chameli as her essence will always remain within the hearts of her son and all who knew her.

As our gardens are resting for the winter we must not forget to cultivate the flowers within our garden of life.  Whether it is honoring a flower that has been transplanted from the garden of your heart leaving its essence behind, or acknowledging the full thriving bouquet of splendor that are rooted amongst you – we must not forsake the nourishing of one another.

Do you know who the flowers are in your garden?

A few of mine include:

  • My Sister – Tulip – as she always has something to add to every conversation. She calls me Petunia as she says she is allergic to petunias and feels sometimes I cause her to feel “rashish”. She calls her husband her delicate little flower, as he is the rugged mountain man she always dreamed of but she says he bruises easily and recovers slowly.

  • I have another friend whom I consider a violet – one because it was his moms favorite flower and two because sometimes he feels invasive in my life J He calls anyone who causes him heartache throughout the day – Huckleberries.

  • My Mom is dubbed Rosebud as she looks cute and delicate but you must remember roses bear thorns.

  • The 19 year old Himalayan Cat we own is nicknamed – Buttercup as he always seems to need something and is hardly satisfied – and in his older age we have had to use bag balm on his rear end – we call it buttering his bum.

  • Another good friend is a Calla Lily as it is her favorite flower being beautiful and strong, she may bend when a storm comes but continually reaches toward the sun.

Flowers are music in motion – People are the blossoms of life – Not every flower may bring you joy – they all have a purpose and flowers may fade quickly – Buttercup gave us quite a scare this week and I had to ask myself – Where Doing? His little heartbeat is precious – He is ir-replaceable –

Are we doing what is important or just filling our days? Are we doing what is right in regards to those around us as well as ourselves? We take a moment in the winter months to plan out our gardens to make sure each plant thrives the following year – Do we offer the same compassion to those around us whilst we share this space called life?

Now that the holidays are upon us, make a conscious step to stop your symphony of life for a moment’s pause- Stand up on your seat amongst the crowd and shout out to them all – Where Doing Man?

Calla always says, “Go big or go home!” Which inspires me to think, “Love Big – Begin at Home”
