What is a Grassbelt & Grasswrap Q & A

Q. What is a Grassbelt or Grasswrap?

A. The Grassbelt (GB) & Grasswrap (GW) are NEW never seen before products that have just recently been brought to market. These products were designed for use with gardeners and landscapers alike to help assist in managing unmanageable grasses.

Q. Why and where are the GB & GW made?

A. Both products are inventions of necessity and both the GB & GW have provisional patents pending. The GB & GW are PROUDLY MADE in the U.S.A. using materials gathered from local sources, in so doing – we and our customers support America and our local communities! See below for a plethora of uses.

Q. What is the difference between the GB & the GW?

A. The GB & GW are very similar in use & total opposites in their composition. The GB is made from non-treated biodegradable burlap and has biodegradable wooden rings. In contrast the GW is made from poly burlap and has solid stainless steel D rings. The GW is not biodegradable.

Q. Why create two separate models of one product?

A. The GB was created for its organic substance and Biodegradability. The GW was created for its ease of use and re-use as well as its durability over the years.

Q. How does a GB or GW help me with my large ornamental grasses or with my garden maintenance?

A. The GB and GW have many uses – We will list some of the options for use as well as some handy tips to help you make the most of your GB or GW.

Q. Can I place the GB in my compost pile?

A. Do not place the GB into your compost pile as it is biodegradable it will NOT compost as quickly as the other organic materials in your bin. It is safe to place it for bulk pick up or to dispose of it at an organic disposal site.

Large Unruly Ornamental Grass before Grassbelt

  • Use the GB or GW to belt or wrap the large unruly grass to gain control of it. Sometimes these large grasses, when placed by the pedestrian walk, driveway or roadway, may flop and sprawl which can obstruct the view of drivers as well as pedestrians – this creates a hazard. The GB or GW eliminates these hazards of blocked view by tidily encircling and cinching them, therefore creating a clear view to safely proceed.

  • The GB and GW eliminate the chaotic look these large grasses possess by late summer. Simply belting or wrapping the grass with the GB or GW opens the view to the perennials and other lovely flowering neighbors around the grasses.

Large Ornamental Grass in control with the Grassbelt

  • Both the GB and GW can be used to assist with the fall or spring cut back of these large grasses. Simply encircle the grass with the GB or GW and tighten thoroughly, tuck or remove any excess wrap and shear the large grass below the GB or GW. You may choose to cinch the grass with twine above and below the GB or GW before shearing. If you do not wish to remove your product from the grass after shearing and you choose for a one time use the GB is recommended as it may be hauled to the organic dump site with the rest of your organic debris. You do not need to remove the GB from the Grass after shearing. If you would like to re-use either product simply remove it from the grass after you have hauled it to the appropriate disposal site.

  • If your intentions are to use this product only to help in the shearing of your large ornamental grasses we recommend the purchase of the GW. The GW will stand up to repeated use year after year. The stainless steel rings create an easier slide for the material, so you may easily move from one grass to the next without complication. For the contractors out there looking for a quicker way for your team to remove large grasses – this is the product for you as it creates a simple cinch and release process. The GW should be removed before disposal of the organic grass debris.

  • If you like your large ornamental grasses more upright then simply cinch the GB or GW tightly. If you enjoy a more cascading look then tighten the GB or GW as desired.

  • If you prefer to leave your large ornamental grasses up in the winter but your spouse or neighbors complain about the grass debris blowing around the neighborhood then the GB and GW are for you! We recommend installing the GB or GW while the grass blades are still green and flexible. When you apply the GB or GW at this time you can create the look and visual feel for the grass that you desire. The blades will bend and move as you apply the GB or GW and you can manipulate the cascading of the grass blades. If you wait until the stalks have browned and dried you will not be able to create a cascading look as the grass blades will not bend or flex as desired.

  • You can use the GB or GW to cinch and shear the grass after the blades have browned and dried as this is a utilitarian purpose and aesthetics are not required.

  • In light of the biodegradability of the GB and its wooden rings a certain amount of care should be used when tightening.

Other uses include:

  • Belting or wrapping long rows of large ornamental grasses with the GB or GW to create a wind break for the winter or spring

  • Large ornamental grasses that are planted along foundations or commercial buildings can be belted or wrapped with the GB or GW to create a snow guard.

  • Use the GB or GW to bind corn stalks for the holidays

  • Use the GB or GW to decoratively bind or wrap your large perennial bamboo.

  • A great unique gift for the gardener in your life!
