Week Forty-Seven 2013 – 52 Weeks of Lawn & Garden Maintenance – Who’s got their Boggs out who who who who. …Who’s got their Boggs out who who who who!

Well…if you have your Boggs and if we were to compare Boggs – there are many a nice pair out there – I would have to say…. Kent Ohio has the biggest Bog of them all! Though I think we have gone off track, weren’t we talking about boots?

Boots aren’t the only thing you’ll need if you are out working in the weather, covering your roses, spraying your deer edible evergreens with liquid deer fence or just out going not where the trail leads – instead making your own…. Through the rain, mud, snow…

Our favorites include:

For your feet –:Skip the big yellow boot and get a nice pair of Boggs Bogg has a menagerie of choices, and some have handles so they won’t slip off in the mud and they won’t split like those big lovely yellow ones – the handles also make them easier to take off at the end of a long day. Women looking for a sturdy work boot – kind of like the deodorant that is strong enough for a man but made for a woman, so hard to find in a woman’s boot – we favor the women’s Harley Davidson Steel Toe – You’ll want to pair these with a good set of thermal socks or double your regular socks up.

For your hands: Polar gloves are great but can make using your fingers hard to navigate so we use the thermal latex and double them up. North Face also has a nice pair that fits well over the thermal latex.

For your bod – Nothing beats the adult snowsuit – A good pair of Carhardt jumpers with suspenders – of course you will want the matching Carhardt winter coat. They also offer a full jumper, a onesy so to speak. For the women…when you have the suspender style it is much easier using the restroom without feeling like you are completely undressing–

For your head, neck and face: A simple Carhardt snowcap or North Face cap – really any decent simple cap made from cotton. The key here is to find a nice cotton head band at least 3-4 inches wide – Get one to wrap around the brim of your hat and your ears when it is really cold and you can remove the head band when you feel over heated and still retain the cap. Another trick you can do with the head band is wrap one around your neck within your coat, you can pull this up over your mouth and nose when you need it and tuck it back to your neck when you don’t. It beats a ski mask which:

One – makes you look like a burglar

Two – Makes your face a humid mess, like a face terrarium, after it is on only a few moments.

Three – you receive super face freeze, much like an ice cream brain freeze, when you pull the mask off out in the elements & who has time for that?

If you prepare yourself for the elements then you won’t be miserable, if your not miserable you may enjoy your work, if you enjoy your work you will be more productive, if you are more productive you will feel more accomplished, if you feel more accomplished you will sleep better at night, if you sleep better at night you will be ready to do it all over again tomorrow…leave a mark

Wait…. Sounds like a lot of work…maybe…you could just grab your jammies and put a log on the fire…

Either way, it is going to be a long winter so make sure you are prepared to enjoy it!
