With 3 weeks left of 2013 after this one, we may want to take advantage of the few precious moments held within the finality of the year. Maybe your heart becomes full as you work in the garden – perhaps that phrase just made you cringe – so this week we say Chores or Cheers – suppose there is no law against both practiced simultaneously.
Years ago my old employer brought a book into my office one day and asked me to read it. The title – Eat that Frog – I know,,,,kind of reminiscent of Eating Fried Worms with more of a business approach rather than identity. It has always stuck with me. Maybe it was the title – I dig out of the box thinking and in business I have always mentally pictured a frog in a pan of water when I meet a lazy, disorganized or un-interested business owner – Running your garden and your life – especially at the holidays – is much like running a business – and you can tell from your day to day interactions those who are interested in the business of life.
The premises of the book – tasks in your life are like frogs – Eating the frog is equivalent to completing a task – some tasks may feel like eating a frog. The bigger and harrier the task the bigger and more ghastly the frog that needs to be eaten. The author tells us to eat the biggest, most ugly frog first explaining the harder tasks will be best dealt with sooner rather than later. Putting it off will only build the strain around it making it seem enormous and unpalatable.
I am not suggesting you eat a real frog – as frogs are great indicators of the health of our environment as well as innocent bystanders in our human race for things. I am merely suggesting you accomplish those things that have been biting at your ankles, hanging off of your neck, tripping you up when you turn around. Chewing on your brain when you sleep at night – Eat those frogs!!
This week – whether it is your business, your garden or your life don’t let your passion quit burning….
Eat your frogs with a side of cheer and not let toil steal your year – for things were made by human hand, lest we forget and place them in command.
