As you have been following along we have been quickly noting the interesting things in bloom and play in the garden over the past several weeks – Quickly catching up to Mid- February in the next few posts.

The fourth week of January is by no means dull – It may be cold outside and if you haven’t taken off to Florida yet you may want something interesting to look at though the warmth of a good kitchen view.

The Helleborus once again offers a Gold Collection favorite of the ‘Silvermoon – a white bloomer again blooming January through March.

A white blooming Erica Flowering Heath ‘Alba blooming October through May – as well as the evergreen interest.

If you wrap a deep border of Ajuga burgundy glow or Black Scallop around the Helleborus or Heath it will accentuate the whites as the Ajuga holds the landscape with deep purples, almost black at a distance and deep burgundy hughes with rose overtones.

The spikes and brownish florets of the Autumn Joy or similar sedum, which were left from fall, offers interest pulling your eyes above the landscape of snow. As certain varieties of Heuchera if planted well will glow through any dark space with every color imaginable – Bright greens, deep oranges, deep wine, smoky grey, peach – who could imagine what this year will bring in the realm of Heuchera sp.

I am sure you have already noticed you can buy pushed flowers at just about any store – especially the grocery – You can grab an Orchid which only needs ice cubes to be watered. Or a Helleborus – many bulbs – hyacinth and lantana – or a bouquet with the cut flowers.

There is so much happening in the garden in the fourth week of January you could get lost in the idea of blossoms. Not a bad way to outwait the cold!!
