Our clocks have sprung forward, there is a spring in your step, that space is waiting, have you started your prep?

The spring bulb and perennial catalogs have been mailed.

The articles are blasting the pages of our local papers, magazines, town gazettes.

The nurseries are yelling from their rooftops and landscape companies are stalking your entryways with their door hangars/advertisements.

Seminars are in full swing and the Internet is a buzz with googlings.

What is all the commotion over? Spring?

Well yeah, though it is something much deeper, something so much more personal, and something so much more intimate….

They are all vying for a piece of your space!

What?

You say, space?

Yes, space.

Let’s give some of them a run down whilst we think about space:

  • Have you completed your landscape/garden clean up yet?

  • Have you thought about what spring bulbs or other perennials you would like to buy and plant in your garden or landscape?

  • Oh do not forget about trees – wonderful things to plant for the environment and your property

  • Though, you must keep up with the times and edible landscapes are all the rage – buy some edible shrubs or groundcovers

  • What about a forest garden?

  • Container garden?

  • I have it…you need an outdoor entertainment area!!!

My head is spinning, and I made the list much longer than I should though not as long as I could.

At a closer glance you will find it is all about YOUR space and I could join the choir and give you a check list of your spring chores, (which you could find in my blog history of 52 weeks of Garden Maintenance from 2013), though I feel it so redundant.

I will instead implore you to take note of this space, your space. Take note of the depth of it, the breadth of it, does your space have a ceiling?

    This space is yours.

Do not fill it for filling it sake; though do be conscientious what you invite to consummate your space.

Know, whether indoors or out, you are your space and your space is you. Once you leave this earth you will take your intimate space with you – regardless of your belief. The space you leave behind will become someone else’s to fill.

Rather than inundate you with a million ideas of what spring could bring you, I want to introduce you to the magnitude of your space, and invite you to fill it slowly, methodically and with purpose.
